Tomas Alfredson to direct Le Carré adaptation Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, SpyWord’s out that Swedish director Tomas Alfredson has signed on to direct an adaptation of John Le Carré’s Cold War spy novel, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, for Working Title Films.

The film will tell the story of a retired British intelligence officer who is asked to seek out one of the men – a Russian spy – in the senior ranks of his old agency.

Having made waves with his horror love story Let The Right On In (2008), Alfredson will start shooting the spy thriller next year with Oscar-nominated screenwriter Peter Morgan, who previously worked with Working Title on Frost/Nixon (2008), acting as executive producer.

Le Carré’s novel has previously been made into a BAFTA-winning and Emmy nominated TV series, starring Alec Guinness, in the 1970s.

Alfredson won the Best Narrative Feature award at the Tribeca Film Festival for Let The Right One In. He also directed the award-winning short film Screwed in Tallinn and the 2005 film Four Shades of Brown.
