Scheduled for release in Japan next year, Miyazaki Aoi’s new film Solanin will be based on Inio Asano’s acclaimed romance manga about a young couple who leave college for the turmoil of the real world together, Anime News Network reports.

Directed by Takahiro Miki, who is mostly known for his music videos, and produced by Asmik Ace, Solanin started filming in late April. Miyazaki will play the heroine Meiko, while Kengo Kora will play her boyfriend Naruo.

The star of live-action hit Nana (2005), the romance drama Heavenly Forest (2006) and the Korean-Japanese co-production Virgin Snow (2007), Miyazaki Aoi is one of Japan’s most popular actresses.
