The trailer and quite a few stills from Shutter Island, Martin Scorsese’s new film set to hit US screens in October, have just been released on the web. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Emily Mortimer and Jackie Earle Haley, this film has the polished look of a very promising production in the horror thriller genre.
Drama is set in 1954, U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels is investigating the disappearance of a murderess who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane and is presumed to be hiding on the remote Shutter Island.
Based on a novel by Dennis Lehane, the author of Mystic River, this film is the director’s next major effort after The Departed (2006). Cinematography looks stunning with Robert Richardson (Inglourious Basterds, A Few Good Men, Platoon) behind the camera. An eerie setting somewhat reminiscent of the mental asylum from Session 9 (2001) and apparent supernatural elements leave us to wonder if Scorsese is looking to hit the grind-house circuit with this one (which would be a good thing!).
Check out the trailer below and head over to ScreenCrave for more stills. Shutter Island will be out October 2.
