Luc Besson working on comics adaptation Adèle Blanc-Sec

Luc Besson working on comics adaptation Adèle Blanc SecWord’s out that Luc Besson’s new project Les Aventures Extrodinaire d’Adèle Blanc-Sec has entered post-production with Europacorp saying the French release has been scheduled for April 14, 2010. The first of a trilogy planned by Besson, this film is expected to cover events in the comics Adèle and the Beast and Mummies on Parade.

Based on the comic books of Jacques Tardi, a series started in the 1970s, the film will focus on the extraordinary adventures of Adèle (played by ex-Canal+ weather girl Louise Bourgoin) as she navigates Victorian-era Paris and goes on Indiana Jones-like quests.

The year is 1912. Adèle Blanc-Sec, an intrepid young reporter, will go to any lengths to achieve her aims, including sailing to Egypt to tackle mummies of all shapes and sizes.

Meanwhile, in Paris, it’s panic stations! A 136 million-year old pterodactyl egg on a shelf in the natural history museum has mysteriously hatched, and the bird subjects the city to a reign of terror from the skies. But nothing fazes Adèle Blanc-Sec, whose adventures reveal many more extraordinary surprises…

Besson’s three-part franchise will eventually feature the complete series, spanning the Belle Epoque, the Great War and the war’s aftermath. Clearly a curiosity worth sampling. /Film has fresh stills and more details.
