Actor George Clooney was one of the first Hollywood celebrities to visit President Barack Obama at the White House earlier this year, it has been revealed. According to a newly declassified White House visitor list for the period from 20 January to 31 July, Clooney had a meeting on 23 February with Barack Obama.
George Clooney, a U.N. messenger of peace, met with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Sudan’s troubled Darfur region.
Clooney has said that during his visit he asked Obama to appoint a full-time regional envoy for Darfur to report directly to the White House.
Also on the list – released as part of Obama’s campaign for greater transparency – were prominent celebrities Oprah Winfrey and Denzel Washington as well as Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates.
