Besouro to hit Brazilian screens in October Brazilian film Besouro (Beetle) focusing on the mystical martial art of capoeira is set to hit screens this October. Directed by João Daniel Tikhomiroff and currently in its post-production phase, the film will tell the life story of legendary capoeira fighter Besouro Mangangá who lived a short life in the early twentieth century.

Besouro will star Aílton Carmo as its main lead, a young Brazilian man of African descent from Bahia in search of his mission in life. Ku Huan-chiu of Kill Bill (2003) and The Matrix (1999) will direct the action scenes.

The film is expected to incorporate elements of mysticism, including references to African Yoruba and Brazilian Orisha gods. According to legend, Mangangá also had supernatural powers that allowed him to disappear whenever he found himself in danger and turn into a large black beetle at will.
