Audiard drama Un Prophète gets new French trailer

Audiard drama Un Prophète gets new French trailerSony Pictures Classics released a new trailer in French for Jacques Audiard’s prison drama Un Prophète (A Prophet), which premiered at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. While the film has been screened at a number of festivals, its theatrical release has been pushed back to February 10.

Set over three or four years, the film tracks estranged Muslim Malik El Djebena as he evolves from wide-eyed, cowering inmate to ruler of the prison yard, a journey that begins with the Corsican mafia choosing him to kill an Arab snitch they can’t get close to. The young Arab man sent to a French prison eventually becomes a mafia kingpin.

With A Prophet, Audiard – best known for his films The Beat That My Heart Skipped (2005) and Read My Lips (2001) – is riding the new prison drama wave in the vein of works such as I’ve Loved You So Long (2008) and the Brazilian film Carandiru (2003).
